NFU Mutual is pleased to report that Navigate, the new platform for the Motor Insurance Database (MID) is now live for customers and further updates have been made to fix some access issues.

The Motor Insurance Bureau (MIB) have delivered important fixes that enable policy search to be available for all customers and are managing performance issues. There are known issues to be aware of:

  • Vehicle details not loading – mostly affecting policies where there is a high count of vehicle records, both on the current and previous records due to an intentional timeout to improve portal performance.  You can search for the vehicle registration to find an individual vehicle record or download the current vehicle schedule to see all vehicles by selecting ‘Today’s Schedule’
  • Issues taking vehicles off cover – this is only affecting some customers and the MIB have identified a fix which will be deployed as soon as possible

We confirm that there will be no impact on the cover provided by your insurance policy due to the inability to update the MID records. Please update your records in the usual way once the Navigate system issues have been resolved.

For the time being we advise Policyholders to keep a motor certificate in all registered vehicles which should be printed/easy to access such as on a phone if you have recently taken out your policy or your renewal is due around this time as precaution. We can confirm that all vehicle details submitted by NFU Mutual have been added to the Navigate portal.

If your issue relates to something other than registration for the Navigate platform then please contact the MID helpdesk on 0800 197 1185. We are experiencing a higher volume of calls than normal so there may be a delay before we get to your call.

If your account needs to be reset, this can take a couple of days to resolve due to referral to MIB.

What is the Motor Insurance Database (MID)?

The Motor Insurance Database (MID) was set up by the insurance industry to help combat crime. As a Fleet or Motor Trade Road policyholder you are responsible for regularly submitting information about your vehicles.

Migration from MIDPortal to Navigate – existing customers only

You will be invited to register for Navigate on 22nd April before the migration from MIDPortal to Navigate. You will receive an email directly to the email address the Motor Insurers’ Bureau have recorded, inviting you to register. Your access will remain the same. Navigate will not be available to use until the 29th April so once registered from the 22nd you will not immediately be able to use the new portal. 

Please continue to use MID Portal to make any udpates.  Please note you will not be able to change any details from 5pm on Friday the 26th to the 28th of April 2024 on MIDPortal due to the Motor Insurers’ Bureau transitioning from MIDPortal to Navigate.

Between the 25th of April 2024 to 30th April 2024, we advise Policyholders to keep a motor certificate in all registered vehicles which should be printed/easy to access such as on a phone if you have recently taken out your policy or your renewal is due around this time.

How to make your MID changes

NFU Mutual will provide access to the MID's portal called 'Navigate' using the email address you have provided. This email address will become your log in to 'Navigate'.

Once your access has been set up, you can access 'Navigate' through the Motor Insurers’ Bureau Identity Portal to make changes to your vehicles.
